The 2006-2007 freshman class of Eastbrook
Academy High School toured the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
campus and the Marquette University campus in the spring of 2007.
Both tours gave brief but informative insights into how students
as young as freshman can start planning and preparing for college.
Grade are important, but both colleges stressed that the application
should include information that would help them get to know the
"whole" student. A "portfolio" of the following
information should start to be gathered in the freshman year:
- Letters of recommendation
- Notes from teachers and others regarding outstanding performance
- Volunteer history
- Work history
- Documents showing the student's interests
- Grades
- SAT & ACT scores
The application process for college will normally start in the
fall of the student's senior year. Grades for the freshman through
the junior year are very important.
8th Graders and freshman are encouraged to learn about the Wisconsin
Covenant through the website WisconsinCovenant.wi.gov. It consists
of a pledge for the students to make regarding their high school
years and a promise from the State of Wisconsin for college. |
